Los Cabos – Day 3

Started this day by ordering room service (since I would have already been late for breakfast, so it was great to order while getting ready in parallel). I got scrambled eggs with ham, pancakes and waffles. All great!

Then joined everyone at the beach. Pretty much chilled there for several hours, including playing chess and re-learning poker (thought I was going to play from one of the resort activities, but ended up not doing it because it wasn’t real money.

Then went to the coffee shop and grabbed a donut and espresso. After, chilled at Pergola again, and then by the infinity pool to watch the sunset.

One thing I did discover is a childcare martini (basically it’s like chocolate kiln with alcohol. They make it with real melted chocolate, baileys, and vodka).

After, pretty much got ready for dinner at Sakke (which is a Japanese hibachi resort restaurant). We didn’t get a table for hibachi, but we got a fixed meal. Overall, it was alright, but definitely not the best Japanese food I e had (they didn’t even have any Japanese whisky!).

After, we headed to Crania in San Jose to see David Holme. Along the way we saw some of the resorts nearby there. They look pretty nice, and I think if I come back, should look into booking a place there.

Crania has a dinner part (the one gotcha is that if you reserve, you’ll get charged $16 USD per person if you cancel).

Here is the details about the food: http://food.johnmatienzo.com/2023/02/06/crania/

Crania itself was very burner like. Lots of art, sand, and playa tech vibes. Would go back again.

Croatia – Dubrovnik Day 14

This was a pretty action packed day.

First started by going to the Dubrovnik Shopping Minceta (mall). Rob needed to grab a Fanny pack for Italy. The mall reminded me of Dragon Centre in China Town Toronto. We then went to the restaurant in the mall called Minceta (haha, go figure). Details can be found here:

http://food.johnmatienzo.com/2021/08/15/minceta/

After, we headed to Old Town, and did the most popular tourist attraction, which is walking the walls of Old Town (I did it through the Dubrovnik card). It took about an hour (with taking some pics). We might’ve lent abut more time taking pics if it wasn’t so hot!

After, I did a Game of Thrones walking tour. Some notes from the tour:

-Kings Landing was in Malta for the first season, until some issues arose with some heritage thing being broken from the set

-Disney will be filing a scene in the upcoming Star Wars movie at Dubrovnik (likely only a 3 minute scene).

-When using Old Town, AirBnb and shops get compensated for any business they lose by the film company

-Lots of “teleporting” of scenes

-The red keep gets “placed” in many scenes

-The shame walk is comprised of several parts of the old town

-Lots of scenes shot at Lovrjenac (castle building slightly outside Old Town)

END OF THE POST HAS MORE PICTURE DETAILS

After the tour, visited St Blaise’s church and one other church (did not catch the name).

Then rode a cable car to the top of the mountain for sunset. Thought the sunset and view was worth it.

Then went back to the hotel to get ready for some clubbing.

Went to Club Lazareti, which played pretty good techno music. Wish I stayed the whole night (but went back to Revelin since the night before was great… but unfortunately not true for this night). Still, met some Germans at Revelin, where we tried to check out the beach for any after party. Unfortunately there was none. Still a fun night overall. (Note, there was an after party at Club Lazareti, but they added the Euro COVID certificate requirement for after 12am. Sigh).

Hawaii – Kona Day 10

Started off the day by visiting Da Poke Shack for lunch. Here are the details:

After lunch, we headed off to Kealakekua Bay to pick up kayaks for visiting the Captain Cook monument. Used this rental company: https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/ehuandkai/items/?flow=19754&full-items=yes

Kayaking took about 30 minutes to the monument. The waters for kayaking and snorkeling were not too bad. This bay I supposed to have the best views for snorkeling in Hawaii. I thought the view under the water for snorkeling was ok. The view closer to the edges of the rock walls and shore were better than ones further out. I also added some more snorkeling tips after this trip here:

After snorkeling, we headed to a hotel bar in the Royal Kona Resort to watch the sunset while drinking pina coladas. You can find the details here:

Ended off the day having dinner at Janie’s where Sam made a veggie pizza (starter kit from Costco, and NJ brought the fake sausage and vegetables), plus lobster pasta.
